Air Conditioning

Is Your Air Conditioner Going to Make It to the End of Summer?

One of the most common service calls we get in regards to a broken down air conditioner is from families who have elderly or ill individuals living in their home, and their AC system has died on a 90 degree day.

There might be times where an emergency such as this is unavoidable, however there are steps you can take both before summer and during summer to reduce your risks. As we are still experiencing pretty warm temperatures, you’ll want to read the tips below on how to ensure your system makes it to the end of the season.

Schedule Maintenance

Preventive maintenance is something that should be scheduled at least once a year. We cannot stress how important this is, at it allows our technicians to thoroughly clean and inspect the system to make sure it’s in the best shape possible. Maintenance also allows us to spot the need for small repairs, so they don’t become larger issues that cause premature system breakdown. Although the heat of summer isn’t the most popular time to schedule maintenance, it’s never too late!

Change Your Air Filter

This is one maintenance task that you can and should perform on your own. If your air filter gets too clogged with dirt and debris, it can harm your HVAC system. Additionally, it can restrict airflow and cause polluted air to infiltrate your home. We recommend changing your filter at least every three months. However, if you have significant contaminants in your home such as excessive pet dander or cigarette smoke, then you might want to up this to once a month.

Keep Your Condenser Unit Clear

Every once in awhile it’s a good idea to walk outside and make sure that there are no obstructions on or around your condenser unit. This can include leaves, grass clippings, mulch, and even tree branches. These items can all restrict airflow and cause your AC system to work harder than it should have to.
