Have you come to a point of time in your homeownership when you’re ready to replace your air conditioner? Maybe it’s simply old and you feel your home is ready for a change. Or perhaps it has broken down and is beyond repair. No matter what the case may be, our team is here to help.
But it’s important to note that when you’re making such a huge investment in something for your home, you should do your due diligence in researching your options. There are a variety of factors that go into a proper air conditioning installation. Fortunately, you have our team on your side to help with this. Please do reach out to us rather than trying to attempt an AC installation on your own. Here are just some of the considerations we make when matching an AC system to your living space:
For someone who has never done a load calculation to install an air conditioner before, this can be a very complex process. Our HVAC technicians use formulas to understand how much power is required to cool your home, however, it’s not as simple as converting a couple numbers. These calculations look at your region, the amount of sun exposure that reaches your home, the type of insulation installed in your attic and other areas of the home, the number of windows, and how well sealed your home is.
Conducting these calculations correctly is vital to the success of your HVAC system. If your unit ends up being too small, after all, it won’t be able to powerfully cool your home. If it’s too large, however, it will go through a process called short-cycling, which causes undue wear and tear.
Climate can also play a role in the type of cooling system that would best match your home. Different climate conditions can impact your AC.
For example, Texas is pretty well know for its dry air. Too low of humidity can be uncomfortable, and your standard air conditioner doesn’t help the situation. In this case, you may consider the installation of an evaporative cooler as this will add some moisture into your home while simultaneously cooling it off.
Do you already have ducts in your home? This is a big factor in determining the type of air conditioner you choose to have installed. If you do already have ductwork, it means you already have a central air conditioner or a heat pump. This will make your installation relatively simply.
If those ducts are in bad condition, however, or you don’t have ductwork in your home, you may want to consider the installation of a ductless system, instead. The fact that it doesn’t require ducts is a huge selling point for a ductless cooling and heating system. Unites are installed in each room independent from one another, and they can also be controlled independently, too.
This means whatever your cooling preferences are in one room, another occupant of your household can cool their room differently.
