6 Tips To Help Keep You and Your Home Safe and Cozy

Did you know that National Hand Washing Week is coming up? Spanning between Dec. 1 and Dec. 7 this week of awareness is meant to help spread knowledge about the importance of handwashing to keeping us healthy and reducing the spread of illness. With this year having emphasized the vital role that handwashing plays in keeping us safer during our daily lives, we wanted to make sure to share these and other tips to help you stay safe, healthy, and, of course, comfortable, as we wrap up 2020.

There is a lot you can do to help keep yourself, your loved ones, and your home safe. We are sure you know about several of these tips but we want to make sure we share everything we know about how to help ensure your safety and health.

6 Tips To Keep You and Your Home Safe and Healthy

  1. Wash those hands! We’ve heard it many times by now but washing your hands is extremely helpful to reduce the spread of germs. Make sure to wash with soap and water for a full 20 seconds. You can find additional guidelines on the CDC website.
  2. Check your carbon monoxide detectors. Carbon monoxide is often referred to as “the silent killer.” This gas is odorless and invisible but can cause serious health issues and may even lead to death if someone is exposed for long enough. Carbon monoxide detectors can help keep you safe because they can detect this invisible gas before it is able to harm you or your loved ones. Check your detectors to make sure they are responsive and have working batteries.
  3. Consider adding an air purification system. Air purifiers have the ability to remove particles from the air that might otherwise cause health issues for you or others in your home. This can include capturing or destroying viruses, bacteria, and allergens. This can help keep you healthier and can reduce the aggravation of respiratory issues like allergies or asthma.
  4. Keep your gatherings to a minimum this holiday season. All of us are probably craving a visit with our loved ones. However, this season it is a good idea to keep gatherings to a minimum. It is safer to keep that next family dinner to 10 people or less. Additionally, this year may be the time to consider putting off travel plans to reduce the chances of getting ill.
  5. Keep up with furnace services. Do you have a gas-burning service? It is vital to ensure that your schedule regular maintenance and repairs with a trained HVAC contractor in Sugar Land. Poorly maintained furnaces are more likely to develop issues that can create safety hazards such as a cracked heat exchanger that leaks gas into the home.
  6. Look into the help of a humidifier. Dry air can hinder your home comfort and can mess with your health too. If the air in your home is too dry, it can make it harder for your heater to keep the home warm. Likewise, it can also dry you out, increasing your risk of contracting an illness. Humidifiers can improve your comfort and can help keep you healthier too.
